DEGREE HUSTLE IN MOI UNIVERSITY

Moi University is known as one of the best public university in Kenya. It appears in the rankings of the world too but all these seem to cover up the fact that there is something amiss. The institution has a lot of accusations which mostly affect the students. Let’s talk about the endless holidays and elongated study years. One is capable of spending up to six academic years on a four year course. This makes pursuing a degree in this institution seem like starting a learning career. Most may say that all these prepare us for a better future but if this is how the future looks like then I wouldn’t want to be in it. Life in this institution is almost like taking a vacation from reality because of all the struggles going in here while the outside world waits with its surprise.

Missing marks seem to be a major issue in the school making it a living hell to track one’s progress. The administrative iron fist rule seems to be also an issue as they would not make a decision from a consensus from both teams. The students are forced to clear their fees in order to acquire a hostel, no cooking in the hostels and sometimes staying days with black outs. Are we really to keep quiet or do we have a say in the way we are handled? The institution is increasing fees overnight and expects all to be okay.

Lecturers should really do their parts as we also struggle to uphold our end. Some come to class once and you’ll see them at the exams next. They are the same lecturers hurrying to award you with a retake or a Supplementary exam. Some give you exams without even stepping into lecture halls. I’ve witnessed turning some job opportunities down to school delay. Some are forced to defer due school delay. It is said, time waits for no man and when opportunity knocks seize it. How is this possible if school is on the way? It is an endless sea of desperation and depression. The urge of starting and doing something more with your knowledge gets greedier every day. The school should really do something about this issue. Our peers are graduating before us and actually seizing all the job opportunities. This is a job fight and it is only fair if we start the completion all with the same go sign.
