CHEAP ENERGY SOURCE

For years we have been relying on hydro energy which is expensive to most people and not fully reliable since it is prone to rationing where population is high like urban areas and also due to the rapid climatic change we are not sure about its future. The United Nations came up with sustainable goals and access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy is one of them.

Residents in rural areas who keep livestock might benefit from a recent study made in Botswana, ‘ Waste not, want not; meeting rural energy needs and cutting CO2 emissions ’, talks about: Using animal waste to produce gas (biogas) which will be used to cook and for lighting. There are benefits of adopting this kindof energy generation:
Affordable source of energy. In Kenya too this type of energy is being used, biogas as an alternative source of fuel. Lots of researches have been done and are available for anyone to access, 8 months ago NTV posted a clip of an interview hosted by Peter Ngigi on Property focus show which focused on using homemade organic waste to create biogas https://youtu.be/o_jSVVaG8Hc and the interviewee explains on:

1.how to set up a biogas digester

2. How much organic waste is needed

3. Period of time to take before checking/adding waste.

Daraja academy in laikipia County uses biogas to cook for its students and it is a very reliable source of energy. The school has about 100 students and about 20 staff member. The school has many sources of its organic waste; food remains, animals waste( chicken, rabbits, cows).

The students are involved in this process so that they may teach others and also implement it to there home areas.

The use of renewable sources of energy is a goal that most government has for the 2030 vision plan.

  1. I am passionate about the environment so I am impressed with your blog. The problem with the government is they ban wanjiku from felling trees for charcoal yet they also hike prices of gas which is an efficient fuel and environmental-friendly.

    1. Does wanjiku plant 2 trees after cutting one??
The government is responsible for the hike in prices but thanks to UNDP helping us work towards achieving affordable energy.

  2. The issue of energy consumption is quite a thing. The use of green energy in the current world seems the best way to go. But despite all the green energy the pricing is a bit off since the monopolization of elecropower hence the hog of the industry. Apart from all that the energy discussion should have a large audience for discussion.

    1. Green energy is clean energy, does not course pollution. In addition to this,as our governments implement these energy goal they should provide the required equipments to produce green energy.
